Encaustic painting is the process of working with pigmented beeswax. The word “encaustic” or “burning in” in Greek, refers to the process of fusing wax after it is painted in order for the wax to remain stable. This process is considered one of the oldest methods of painting in history, dating back to early Egypt.
About the Instructor
Carolyn Springer has been a teacher of art and design in the university, private and non-profit settings for 25 years. “Painting with Fire” invites people to take a chance on a new material and method in their creative process and this is an exciting part of her class. Encaustic painting uses
“burning in” to melt beeswax and pigments together to create unique and beautiful works of art. Carolyn says, “Just the smell of the melting beeswax and I was hooked, and I have been painting with encaustic for over thirty years. It is my passion and big part of why I love sharing it with others.”
Her most recent project is called “The Forgiving Sea,” which provides collaborative and interactive experiences through installation paintings and has revealed to her the great need the world community has for realigning their heart and souls through active forgiveness through art. www.theforgivingseaproject.org
