Class

This six-week class will meet on Sundays, April 12, 19, 26, May 3, 17, and 24 (skip May 10) with a graduation performance on May 31.

Your story has power—and this class gives it a mic.

Led by award-winning actor, educator, and performer Mike Sears, this online class explores the bold, expressive world of spoken word poetry—where the stage meets the page. Whether you’re revisiting a long-shelved passion or just starting to write, you’ll find a welcoming, supportive space to build confidence, community, and your creative voice.

🎤 What You’ll Do:

  • Write boldly: Use rhythm, metaphor, and lived experience to craft poems that speak your truth.
  • Workshop bravely: Share your work, receive thoughtful feedback, and refine your pieces with purpose.
  • Perform powerfully: Learn the basics of stage presence—vocal projection, enunciation, body language, and eye contact—to bring your work to life.

Whether your style leans slam, hip-hop, storytelling, or monologue, Mike will guide you in discovering what feels most true to you. The class is rooted in community, connection, and craft. We’ll focus on the creative process—drafting, rewriting, and practicing performance—so that by the final session, you’ll have at least one polished piece ready to share.

No experience needed. Just bring yourself and the courage to speak from the heart.

This class prepares participants to perform for an audience of family and friends at their graduation show on May 21.
