ClassThis six-week class meets on Mondays, April 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11, and 18 from 6-8:30 PM, with a graduation showcase on Saturday, May 23 from 6-8:30 PM.
Explore the heart of songwriting in a supportive, collaborative space. Led by award-winning performer and teaching artist Tamara Rodriguez, this class takes you from your first idea to a complete original song, even if you’ve never written or performed before.
Each session blends musical warm-ups, hands-on lyric and rhythm exercises, and small-group collaboration. You’ll learn the core elements of songwriting — melody, groove, harmony, and structure — and discover how your own experiences can shape authentic, powerful music.
We’ll use movement, rhythm games, guided writing prompts, and listening exercises to build skills in a playful, accessible way. You’ll also practice performance techniques like vocal dynamics, phrasing, and stage presence, and get a beginner-friendly introduction to basic recording.
By the end of the course, every participant will have created at least one original song (solo or collaborative) and will have the chance to share it at our Graduation Showcase on May 23, a celebratory event for family and friends.
Whether you’re brand new to songwriting or looking to reconnect with creativity, this class offers the structure, encouragement, and community to help your voice come alive through music.
