About the instructors
Robin Sanford Roberts has been working professionally as a scenic designer for over a decade. She has collaborated with hundreds of artists and directors on over seventy-five different productions throughout the United States and Canada including twenty-five productions at The Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. Robin’s scenic design work has been featured at numerous regional theatres and her Broadway show, “It Ain’t Nothin But the Blues”, was nominated for a Tony Award.
Robin currently has a studio at Art on 30th and is a mixed media artist, combining paint, vintage papers and line drawing. She teaches several classes and workshops at Art on 30th as well as at the Athenaeum in La Jolla. Kate Ashton is a contemporary mixed-media artist based in San Diego and the founder of Art on 30th, a vibrant arts and cultural center in North Park. After rediscovering her passion for painting, Kate embraced her calling with the mantra: “If you want to be an artist, then get up every day and paint.” Her journey from student to professional artist has been one of resilience and dedication. With years of experience mentoring and teaching, Kate creates a supportive and inspiring environment for students of all levels, blending technical skill-building with creative exploration. She is excited to bring her passion and expertise to ASAP’s painting class, fostering connection and self-expression through the arts.
