Musical Conversations: Improvisational Songwriting
August 14 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm Pacific
Join musicians Alec Johnson and Eric Amparo for an interactive songwriting workshop open to everyone, no experience or musical talent needed.
Through musical games and real-time co-creation, you’ll explore music as a tool for self-expression, emotional wellness, and connection. Expect a playful, low-pressure space where there are no wrong notes — just rhythm, real talk, and community.
About the Instructors
Alec Johnson, MT-BC, is a music therapist and educator from Big Bear Lake, California. Alec discovered his joy for building community and self-sufficient living through his experience in agroforestry. He later honed his skills at Berklee College of Music in Boston and Spain where he studied Neurologic Music Therapy, advanced guitar theory, and entrepreneurship. Alec integrates music therapy with self-sustaining food production to foster holistic health and resilience. Alec’s mission is to help people equip themselves to lead fulfilling and cost-effective lives through musical tools and robust local food systems.
Eric Amparo MT-BC, is a music therapist working in hospice from San Diego, California. Eric is very passionate in playing, creating, sharing and integrating music in many aspects of life. He believes that everyone, at every age and stage of life has the ability to engage and benefit from music. Eric graduated from SDSU in 2012 with a bachelors in psychology, working with children and young adults with developmental disabilities. Recently, he has completed his music therapy degree at ASU and is now working with older adult populations in hospice. Eric has always been a lover of improvisational aspects of art and believes play is often one of the best ways to connect and ground ourselves. His mission is to show the importance of those things and make music (and music making) accessible for everyone.
This class is produced in partnership with The Music Company.
