Hand-Built Connections: Interlocking Heart Cups
February 14 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

This two-week class meets on Saturdays, February 14 and 28 from 10 AM-12 PM.
Whether you’re looking for a unique date night activity, a gift for a friend, or a way to treat yourself, this class offers a tactile and rewarding introduction to the art of hand-building.
In this course, participants will create a pair of custom interlocking heart-shaped cups designed to fit perfectly together. All materials will be provided, come ready to get creative — and a little messy.
What You’ll Learn
This class is perfect for beginners and focuses on the foundational pillars of ceramic construction. You will move beyond the potter’s wheel to learn how to manipulate clay by hand using professional techniques:
- Scoring & Slipping: Master the “glue” of the pottery world to ensure your joints stay permanently attached.
- Compression: Learn the importance of structural integrity and how to prevent cracks during the drying process.
- Forming & Joining: Discover how to transition flat clay slabs into functional, 3D vessels that mirror each other’s curves.
Two Sessions, Two Hours Each
Session 1: The Build
Focus on the “wet” stage of clay. You will design, cut, and assemble your two heart cups. Our instructor will guide you through smoothing the surfaces and ensuring the interlocking mechanism is seamless before they head to the kiln for their first firing.
Session 2: The Glaze Lab
Once your pieces have been fired into “bisque,” you’ll return to add color! You will have the full session to explore our professional-grade glazes, learning application techniques to ensure a vibrant, food-safe finish.
Outcome: A functional, handmade set of interlocking cups that are dishwasher and microwave safe.
About the Instructor
Elle Zeiler is a 23-year old crochet artist who has been creating for over 15 years. Having learned how to crochet as a child from her great-grandmother, she has had the most rewarding experiences passing on her knowledge through teaching people in the community how to create their own works of art with yarn and a hook. From helping neighborhood kids make their own scrunchies to teaching classes on making home decor, Elle is always ready to lend a helping hand to their fellow crafters!
