ClassThis six-week class will meet on Wednesdays: March 25, April 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. Each session is 2 hours.
Whether you’re an experienced actor or are stepping onto the stage for the first time, this six-week course invites you to explore what makes a performance feel honest, grounded, and real. This class uses Uta Hagen’s Challenge for the Actor as a guiding framework to help participants build confidence onstage, analyse characters, and develop practical skills you can use in any performance.
The course culminates in a final showing where each participant presents a short monologue they’ve rehearsed throughout the program. No prior experience is required: just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to play! Come learn “the art of being believable!”
About the Instructor
Alissa Klusky is a dramaturg, director, and experienced devising artist based in the DC-area. Her work centers around exploring the “why” of creating theater with and for local communities. With an emphasis on joyous discovery, her devising practice has taken her across the US and to India, collaborating with artists from a wide range of artistic backgrounds. She currently facilitates the Theatre Washington Mentorship Program, connecting theater artists of all ages and stages with mentors in the DC area. Outside of theater, she enjoys hanging out with her dog Nugget, reading fantasy and sci-fi books, and a great jam session.
