Writing

Have you ever watched “In Living Color,” “Chappelle’s Show,” or perhaps “Saturday Night Live”? Do you have a burning desire to learn the basics of writing your own sketches? If you answered yes, this workshop is for you.

In this workshop you’ll learn tools to sketch write, including identifying “the game” to write short comedic scenes. Participants will leave the session with an understanding of popular sketch formats and the beginning of a sketch. No prior sketch writing experience is necessary — the only requirement is a desire to write and learn.

About the instructor

Erica Johnson is an award-winning actor who also writes and produces short films and sketch comedy shows. She trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade and the Peoples Improv Theater (The PIT). She has produced, written, and starred in several sketch comedy shows and continually performs at comedy theaters across the country including the Magnet Theater, Upright Citizens Brigade, and The Peoples Improv Theater. She graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. with an MA in Strategic Communications and recently completed the Global Virtual Conservatory at Atlantic Theater. Erica is the proud founder of Sir Carter Carter, a semi-satire website that centers on comedy and social justice. Before developing Sir Carter Carter, she freelanced with The Washington Informer as a journalist and TV One as a digital content producer. When she’s not making people laugh, she’s stuffing her face with cakes and pies – desserts are delicious.
