This seven-week class meets on Tuesdays, March 18, 25, April 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. Each session is 2 hours.
In this seven-week class, you will be introduced to the art of pastels—a versatile medium rich in color and full of expressive potential. You will try your hand at a variety of techniques including layering, color mixing, and adding texture and depth. Pastels are a gateway to painting and a great way to strengthen drawing skills. This class is perfect for those who want to learn new techniques and create in a fun and supportive environment
About the Instructor
Dan Cooper is an award-winning visual artist with paintings in private and corporate collections. He is the recipient of the 2023 Skip McKinney Faculty of the Year Award, and 2024 will be his 17th year teaching at the Indianapolis Art Center. Cooper’s classes include acrylic painting, pastels, several forms of digital art, digital photography, and moviemaking. His documentaries recording the Indianapolis art scene for a 10-year period have been archived by the Indiana State Museum, Indiana Historical Society, and the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Cooper has been an active arts advocate since helping to establish the Arts Council of Indianapolis in 1987. He attended Indiana University in Bloomington and the University of Indianapolis.
