This three-week class meets on Thursdays, June 4, 11, and 18.

Ready to try something new? This beginner-friendly class gets you comfortable at the sewing machine and creating from day one. You’ll learn machine safety, how it works, and the essentials—threading, winding a bobbin, sewing straight stitches, and understanding tools and materials. We’ll also cover seam allowance and simple tips to make your time at the machine easy and enjoyable.

Then bring it all together by making your own pajama bottoms. You’ll learn how to read and adjust a sewing pattern, understand basic garment construction, hem your project, create an elastic waistband, and add pockets. No experience needed—just come ready to learn, connect, and create.

About the Instructors

Samantha Carson got interested in sewing because she hated that clothes never fit her (who else can relate to that?). Surely making clothes can’t be that hard! Her favorite things to sew are doll clothes and doggo clothes. Tiny things are just too cute! In real life when she isn’t teaching at Abby’s Attic, Samantha is a software developer.

Hannah Barton is a 2024 graduate from The University of the Incarnate Word, having majored in Fashion Design. She started sewing as a senior in high school through her theatre department working in costuming. She has been an instructor at Abby’s Attic since 2023.

Carla Santiago is a 2025 graduate in fashion design student at The University of the Incarnate Word. Her favorite color is purple. Carla has been an instructor at Abby’s Attic since 2024. Being surrounded by others who share her love for sewing makes her sewing journey even more exciting.
