Class

This five-week class will meet on Wednesdays: March 12, 19, 26, April 2, and 9. Each session is 2 hours.

Ready to take your first steps of Shakespeare? Through a combination of text analysis and performance, participants will gain a working knowledge of Shakespeare’s plays and language – verse, prose, meter, character, and intent – a foundation that can then be applied towards continuing appreciation of study. Students will work on scenes and monologues in the class, under the guidance of an STC teaching artist, which will culminate in a final performance for family and friends.

About the Instructor

Matt Castleman has been performing Shakespeare for over a decade and teaching for Shakespeare Theatre Company since 2019. He’s helped students aged 6 to 60 find their facility with words and swords alike, drawing on experience from over 20 Shakespeare productions and years of historical martial arts training. When not acting or teaching he writes science fiction and plays the bass guitar.

The class is produced in partnership with the Shakespeare Theatre Company.
