SUMMARY:Vocal Discovery: Unleash Your Voice
DESCRIPTION:Your voice is a unique instrument — it’s time to learn how to play it! Join us for an energizing workshop designed to help you find your true sound\, build confidence\, and protect your vocal health. \n\n\n\nWe’ll move beyond just “singing along” and dive into the mechanics of great performance. This session covers the essentials every vocalist needs: \n\n\n\nThe Ultimate Warm-Up: Learn why we don’t just jump into the high notes. We’ll walk through physical and vocal exercises to wake up your muscles and prevent strain. \n\n\n\nThe Power of Breath: Master diaphragmatic breathing. Learn how to support your notes so they stay steady\, strong\, and long-lasting. \n\n\n\nExpanding Your Range: Discover how to safely bridge the gap between your “chest voice” and “head voice” to hit those elusive notes with ease. \n\n\n\nTone & Texture: Explore different vocal colors—from bright and poppy to soulful and resonant—to find the style that fits you best. \n\n\n\nPerformance Confidence: Tips on posture\, microphone technique\, and overcoming stage fright. \n\n\n\nNo formal singing experience needed\, whether you’ve been booed off the karaoke stage (we’ve all been there.. no\, just me? cool….) or are a secret virtuoso\, this workshop will help take you to the next level. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Instructors \n\n\n\nDavid Patton is a seasoned multi-instrumentalist whose musical foundation was built on classical piano and rigorous music theory. He currently serves as the Music Director at School of Rock San Antonio\, where he draws on over a decade of teaching experience to lead the curriculum and mentor the next generation of musicians. When he isn’t shaping young talent\, he is the frontman for the heavy metal band Deadmarsh. Whether through a complex piano arrangement or a high-energy metal set\, David’s career remains a testament to a lifelong devotion to the craft. \n\n\n\nOllie Allen’s life has been defined by music since childhood\, a journey that began with mastering five different instruments and developing a powerful vocal foundation. A graduate of the School of Rock San Antonio program\, Ollie went on to formalize their expertise at the University of Texas at San Antonio\, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a focus on Voice. As an educator\, Ollie is dedicated to teaching proper technique across a diverse array of genres\, always prioritizing the individual goals of their students to foster a lifelong passion for the craft. \n\n\n\nLucas Carillo\, aka Stan Leonard on stage\, is a seasoned musician and teacher at School of Rock San Antonio. He thrives at being a multi-instrumentalist\, teaching guitar\, bass guitar\, drums and singing. With over 16 years professional experience and more than 2\,000 live performances under his belt\, Lucas brings real world insight into every lesson and band rehearsal. In addition to teaching and playing music\, Lucas also works in studio as a session player\, producer and engineer. His studio credits include working with Moe & Tom and a feature on Mothica’s charting single “Burnout”\, among many others.

SUMMARY:Nature Journaling
DESCRIPTION:“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.” – Rachel Carson \n\n\n\nNature Journaling is\, simply put\, recording and collecting your thoughts\, ideas\, questions\, and observations onto a page in your journal. You do not have to be an artist\, scientist\, or a poet to enjoy nature journaling. It is noticing life as it appears to you\, right now\, learning how to preserve your observations using words\, pictures\, and numbers\, and putting them down on paper in your journal. \n\n\n\nNature Journaling is a skill that\, like any skill\, will develop the more you practice it. It is a tool for learning to live more deeply. It can be learned at any age\, and will reward anyone who takes up the practice with a record of their days on this earth. All you need is a pencil\, a journal\, and an open mind. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Instructor \n\n\n\nFor as long as he can remember\, James Todd has enjoyed being outside — whether squirrel hunting\, camping out beneath the stars\, or kayaking on a river or lake with his wife. He is a Master Naturalist through the Indiana DNR\, and a certified Nature Journal Educator through the Wild Wonder Foundation. James started nature journaling in 2022 and it has since become a regular practice and part of his life. After retiring from police work in 2011\, James now works as a personal trainer and boxing coach for Rock Steady Boxing\, which is an exercise program for people with Parkinson’s Disease. He also volunteers with the Central Indiana Land Trust as a White River Docent\, and with The Nature Conservancy as a Bison Ranger.

SUMMARY:Write That Play!
DESCRIPTION:This seven-week class will meet on Mondays: July 20\, 27\, August 3\, 10\, 17\, 24\, and 31. This class includes five sessions of instruction\, and in the final two sessions we will invite actors to perform your play. \n\n\n\nPlaywriting allows writers to tell stories using a unique medium–live performance. This class reviews the fundamentals of narrative structure\, with a focus on the creation of a ten-minute play. The principles we learn can be applied to full-length works as well. Just click your ruby heels together and say: “there’s no place like a theater”. \n\n\n\nThe first session covers an overview of the key elements of narrative structure. In the following sessions\, participants will present outlines\, discuss their work in a collaborative and supportive space\, writing and rewriting until the end of the class\, when each student playwright will have completed their own ten-minute play. \n\n\n\nTo make the most out of this class\, participants should continue working on their plays between each session\, using our time together for discussion and feedback. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Instructors \n\n\n\n\nAndrew Black believes that everyone has a story to tell and is committed to helping people find ways to tell their stories. He has PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of Missouri\, Columbia (but please don’t hold that against him). He has taught playwriting at Ohio University\, the University of Missouri\, and the Indiana Writers Center. Read more here.

It’s time to demystify those 88 keys (or 61\, or 49!). \n\n\n\nJoin us for a hands-on\, high-energy session where we strip away any intimidation of music theory and focus instead on actually being able to play the piano. \n\n\n\nWhat We’ll Cover \n\n\n\n\nKeyboard Orientation: Finding “Middle C” and understanding the layout of the black and white keys.\n\n\n\nThe Power of Scales: We’ll take a look at the Major Scale—the “DNA” of almost every song you know.\n\n\n\nChords Made Simple: Learn the “Shape Method” to build Major and Minor triads instantly without needing to read sheet music.\n\n\n\nBasic Rhythm & Posture: How to sit and move so you don’t get “claws” after ten minutes of playing.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Instructors \n\n\n\nDavid Patton is a seasoned multi-instrumentalist whose musical foundation was built on classical piano and rigorous music theory. He currently serves as the Music Director at School of Rock San Antonio\, where he draws on over a decade of teaching experience to lead the curriculum and mentor the next generation of musicians. Whether through a complex piano arrangement or a high-energy metal set\, David’s career remains a testament to a lifelong devotion to the craft. \n\n\n\nAndrew Coldwell discovered a lifelong passion during his first piano lesson at the age of five. Now\, that initial spark has evolved into a versatile career as a multi-instrumentalist and educator dedicated to piano\, guitar\, bass\, drums\, and vocals. A 2020 graduate of the University of the Incarnate Word with a degree in Music Therapy\, Andrew blends his clinical understanding of music’s impact with nearly a decade of professional teaching experience. SUMMARY:Carve & Create: Printmaking
DESCRIPTION:This two-week class meets on Tuesdays\, August 11 and 18. \n\n\n\nCurious how artists turn one drawing into multiple works of art? In this two-session class\, you’ll learn intaglio printmaking—a process that means “to carve”—using a beginner-friendly technique called drypoint. \n\n\n\nYou’ll draw with a pointed tool to carve lines into a surface\, fill those lines with ink\, and use a printing press to transfer your design onto paper. Along the way\, you’ll discover how this process creates rich textures and effects you can’t get with traditional drawing—and the best part\, you’ll make multiple prints from a single design. \n\n\n\nNo experience needed. Just come ready to try something new and create something you’ll want to share. All materials will be provided! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Instructor \n\n\n\nMarjorie Lindsay is a contemporary landscape painter based in San Antonio\, Texas.
