Sewing Basics: Apron Edition
September 3 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm Central
This three-week class meets on Thursdays, September 3, 10, and 17.
Ready to get hands-on and create something you’ll actually use? This beginner-friendly class gets you comfortable at the sewing machine while you learn the essentials—machine safety, how it works, threading, bobbins, and straight stitching. You’ll also cover tools, seam allowance, and simple tips to make sewing easier and more enjoyable.
Then put your skills into action by making a reversible apron—perfect for hosting, gifting, or adding a personal touch to the season. You’ll learn how to follow sewing instructions, understand construction basics, create straps, add pockets, and work with closures like Velcro and buttonholes. No experience needed—just come ready to learn, connect, and create. All materials will be provided.
About the Instructors
Hannah Barton is a 2024 graduate from The University of the Incarnate Word, having majored in Fashion Design. She started sewing as a senior in high school through her theatre department working in costuming. She has been an instructor at Abby’s Attic since 2023.
Jennifer Nicolella has been sewing for over 25 years. She trained as a chemist and a high school math teacher, but her absolute passion is sewing. Jen loves to combine her teaching experience with her love of all things sewing and crafting, plus throw in some mad nerd skills when she can. Jen’s favorite part of teaching people how to sew is seeing the satisfaction and smiles on their faces when they declare, “I did this!” In her free time (hah!) she enjoys camping, bike riding and, of course, sewing.
Madison Trimble started at Abby’s Attic as a student and progressed to become an instructor. She has a degree in Forensic Science from St. Edward’s College in Austin and is currently working towards her Master’s Degree in Forensic Science. She is interested in sewing for Cosplay and historical garment reproductions.
