This seven-week class meets on Tuesdays, August 25, September 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and October 6.

This glassblowing class is the perfect introduction to both hollow work and solid sculpting. Participants will develop skills to manipulate hot glass through off-hand blowing. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll learn the core techniques needed to shape and control glass with confidence. By the end of the course, you’ll have a deeper understanding of the material, the creative process, and the wide range of possibilities that glass art has to offer.

Topics Covered:
Beginning with the basics, we will focus on understanding the effects of heat, centripetal force, and gravity that are the building blocks for mastering the material. Off-hand glass working is like a dance, requiring you to develop muscle memory and rhythm in order for you to work efficiently and with ease.

Safety Notes:

  • Participants must wear cotton shirt, pants, & closed-toe shoes. No sandals, shorts, or synthetics.
  • This studio has high heat temperatures; bottled water is recommended.
  • Minimum height requirement of 56 inches to be able to see into the furnace.
  • Must have full vision capabilities, gripping strength with both hands, and adequate hand-eye coordination.
