Good design should support people rather than require people to work around it. This workshop introduces participants to universal and inclusive design through practical examples that demonstrate how the home can better accommodate different ages, bodies, abilities, sensory needs, temporary injuries, caregiving responsibilities, and life changes.

Participants will explore how furniture placement, pathway clearance, lighting and contrast, seating, storage, controls, hardware, and everyday household features can affect comfort, access, independence,
and ease of use. Through guided comparisons and realistic household scenarios, they will learn to recognize design decisions that unintentionally create barriers and identify more supportive alternatives.

Using a Supportive Home Checklist, each participant will evaluate one room or area and create a personalized plan that includes immediate improvements and longer-term possibilities. No previous design knowledge is required. Participants will leave with practical inclusive-design principles they can continue applying throughout their homes.
