Join us for a lowercase Modern Calligraphy workshop for beginners, where you will learn the art of hand lettering using a traditional pointed dip pen and ink with a contemporary approach.

Many people find Modern Calligraphy attractive to learn because it allows them to create beautiful, fun, and hand-crafted letters that are unique and personal. Modern Calligraphy is often characterized by its use of thick and thin lines, which give the letters a dynamic and expressive quality.

All materials will be provided, and this class is encouraged for students of all skill-levels, including someone who has never taken a calligraphy class before. Traditional calligraphers who would like to learn modern calligraphy techniques. Lefties are welcome!

About the Instructor

Claudia Strenger grew up in Colombia, where she studied Graphic Design. She went on to work as a designer in Santiago, Buenos Aires, and eventually San Francisco, where she spent several years at Toyota and Apple. In 2014, she took her first calligraphy class with Friends of Calligraphy in San Francisco. It stuck. She has been practicing and teaching ever since. In 2022, she and her husband Eric co-founded Strenger Studio in Old Town San Diego. The studio teaches calligraphy and lettering, designs custom work for clients, and produces small-batch studio goods. Claudia leads the studio’s teaching program and wedding work. Her classes are hands-on, beginner-friendly, and focused on building real skill. Learn more here.
